About this publication

This text considers the foundations of human rights by comparing the teachings of Roman Pontiffs with those of Imam Reza. Its central concern is human dignity, understood as something that precedes legal recognition and calls for an ethical, rational and metaphysical foundation.

The address examines the relationship between rights, natural law and religious freedom. Its concluding section proposes dialogue between Christianity and Shia Islam as an opportunity to explore the connections between faith, reason, responsibility and justice.
